Air abrasion is the newest method of cleaning out tooth decay.One advantage of air abrasion is that you don't hear any noise or feel any vibration.Air abrasion works like a tiny sandblaster. Compressed air and an abrasive powder wear decay off your tooth.Needle phobes also may have reason to rejoice. For shallower cavities, you may not need an anesthetic, although the air and the abrasive powder can cause some sensitivity.

The procedure is relatively simple and quick. Often, if a small cavity is found during a checkup, I can fill it the same day in about 10 minutes using air abrasion.

White fillings, also called composite fillings, are made from tooth-colored materials that restore the natural appearance of a decayed or previously filled tooth. Because they blend well with tooth enamel and don’t look like fillings, I may recommend them if the teeth to be restored are near the front of your mouth if esthetics are a concern. Some white fillings may be more expensive than other dental materials, but most patients find these natural-looking restorations well worth the additional cost.

A crown (some people call it a "cap") is used to restore a tooth that would otherwise be in danger of breaking. It covers and protects the entire tooth. A dental bridge is used when there is a tooth missing. It usually involves putting a crown on each tooth on either side of the missing tooth, and then a false tooth or teeth is suspended between the crowns.
